Cruz to make major league start at shortstop

Shortstop Luis Cruz, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier in the day, will make his major-league debut for the Pirates against the Cincinnati Reds at 7:10 tonight at Great American Ballpark. Cruz, the son of a former Mexican League star by the same name, is starting in place of Jack Wilson, who sustained a bruised right index finger Sunday against the Brewers. Cruz will be second. Ian Snell (5-10, 5.77 ERA) will start against Aaron Harang (4-14, 5.27), as the Pirates attempt to snap a 10-game losing streak.
