Time change for Caravan opener

The time for the Pirates Caravan kickoff event Sunday at Seven Springs Mountain Resort has been changed to 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Hmmm … I believe there will be another sports event going on in town Sunday starting shortly after 6 p.m.)

Nate McLouth, Paul Maholm, Sean Burnett, Ross Ohlendorf, Andy LaRoche, manager John Russell, third base coach Tony Beasley and president Frank Coonelly are expected to attend.

Also, the Pirates are set to announce their full slate of promotions for the 2009 season. The three Skyblast shows will include performances by Zac Brown Band (May 30), O.A.R. (Aug. 8) and Foreigner (Sept. 26).

The 100th anniversary of the 1909 World Series clash between the Pirates and Detroit Tigers will be celebrated June 14 with a Turn-Back-The-Clock interleague game at PNC Park. The 1979 World Series will be feted Aug. 21-23.

The April 15 game against Houston will be “Buc Night,” with a limited number of outfield seats selling for $1. Hot dogs, drinks and popcorn also will be $1 each.
