• Baseball Beat, the XM Radio talk show hosted by Charley Steiner, today wrapped up its four-year run on the satellite-boosted airwaves.
I made a few guest appearances on the show, and always was impressed by Charley’s passion for the game and knowledge of every team — even the ones that are not exactly competitive, if you catch my drift.
Baseball Beat was relevant and exceptionally informative because Charley did not interview players, coaches, front-office folk and (ugh) agents. Those folks are only interested in their own spin.
He dealt with the beat writers who are around the game every day and who have no agenda other than shedding a little light on the day-to-day operations of baseball.
It was a refreshing change from the ESPN big-mouths who only want to be chatty with the players and talk about their latest round of 18 with Tiger Woods, John Smoltz and Charles Barkley.
