LaRoche gets $7 million deal

The Pirates today signed Adam LaRoche to a one-year, $7.05 million contract.

The first baseman got a $2 million raise after hitting .270 with 25 home runs last season. LaRoche can become a free agent after the 2009 season.

The Pirates still have five unsigned, arbitration-eligible players: Paul Maholm, Nate McLouth, John Grabow, Tyler Yates and Zach Duke. If no deals are worked out by the noon deadline, the two sides will exchange contract figures and settle matters in arbitration hearings. The hearings will take place Feb. 1-21.
