Wilson back in the lineup

Jack Wilson, who sprained his left middle finger in the home opener, returns to the lineup this afternoon.

• With the Pirates leading 10-0 in the ninth inning yesterday, it might have seemed a good spot to use Rule 5 pickup Donnie Veal for an inning of relief. Manager John Russell and pitching coach Joe Kerrigan discussed it, but ended up going with righty Jesse Chavez. “Chavez needed to get out there,” Russell said. Chavez tossed a 1-2-3 inning, striking out Brian McCann to end it, in is first outing in three days.
