Five down, 46 to go …

MINNEAPOLIS — The Pirates have signed five more draft picks: right-handers Marc Baca (42nd round) and Jason Erickson (24th round), infielder Ty Summerlin (30th round), and outfielders Jose Hernandez (23rd round) and Pat Irvine (33rd round). All five were college players.

That brings the number of draft picks who’ve agreed to contracts with the Pirates to five. Top pick Tony Sanchez, a catcher out of Boston College, came to terms within 72 hours of the draft. He is one of four first-rounders who have signed so far.

• Short-season Class A State College today began its three-day mini-camp. Among the 28 players in camp is righty Quinton Miller, the 20th-round pick last year who got a hefty $900,000 signing bonus. Miller has not pitched since the end of his high school career in May 2008.
