Karstens goes on DL

Jeff Karstens was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, due to lower back soreness. Karstens went on the bereavement list (due to the death of his grandmother) when Phil Dumatrait was activated from the DL. Karstens will be eligible to come off the DL after rosters expand Sept. 1, so there will not have to be any further roster juggling. That a help to the Pirates, who must play an Aug. 31 doubleheader in Cincinnati. Dumatrait “is a candidate” to start one of those games, according to manager John Russell.

Lineups for tonight’s game:

PHILLIES (72-50) — 1. Jimmy Rollins ss, 2. Shane Victorino cf, 3. Chase Utley 2b, 4. Ryan Howard 1b, 5. Jayson Werth rf, 6. Ben Francisco lf, 7. Pedro Feliz 3b, 8. Carlos Ruiz c, 9. Cole Hamels (7-8, 4.78) lhp

PIRATES (52-71) — 1. Andrew McCutchen cf, 2. Delwyn Young 2b, 3. Garrett Jones rf, 4. Andy LaRoche 3b, 5. Ryan Doumit c, 6. Lastings Milledge lf, 7. Steve Pearce 1b, 8. Ronny Cedeno ss, 9. Paul Maholm (7-7, 4.74) lhp
