Daniel McCutchen will debut Monday

MILWAUKEE – Right-hander Daniel McCutchen will make his major league debut Monday in the first game of a day-night doubleheader against the Reds.

The callup means McCutchen will withdraw from Team USA’s roster for the World Cup. “We wouldn’t call him up just to make one start,” manager John Russell said Sunday. “We want him to pitch here.”

Russell estimated the Pirates will need to fill six or seven spot starts over the final five weeks of the season. It’s still possible the Pirates could go with a six-man rotation in September.

McCutchen went 13-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 24 starts for Triple-A Indianapolis.
