McCutchen finishes fourth in Rookie of the Year voting


Center fielder Andrew McCutchen finished fourth in voting for the National League Rookie of the Year Award. McCutchen gathered 25 points, including two first-place votes in balloting by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Florida Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan was the winner with 105 points, including 17 of a possible 32 first-place votes.

Pirates first baseman Garrett Jones finished in seventh place with two points. It’s the fifth time since voting began in 1949 that the Pirates had two players among the top 10.

McCutchen, 23, batted .286 with 26 doubles, nine triples, 12 home runs, 22 stolen bases and 54 RBI. He played in 108 games after being called up from the minors on June 4.
