Morton goes on DL

ATLANTA — Right-hander Charlie Morton was placed on the 15-day disabled list with shoulder fatigue. The Pirates recalled righty Steven Jackson from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Jackson will pitch out of the bullpen. The Pirates have not yet named a replacement starter for Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Brad Lincoln, the club’s top pitching prospect, could be called up next week to make his debut Tuesday.

Morton (1-9, 9.35) lasted just two innings Thursday night against the Cincinnati Reds. He allowed seven runs (five earned) on eight hits, walked three, struck out two and balked once.

After the game, Morton insisted his sore shoulder was not the cause for his poor start.

“Just fatigue. It’s OK,” Morton said. “I don’t think it’s a big issue.”
