John Bowker was listed this morning among the players who will travel to Tampa for tonight’s game against the Yankees, but the outfielder said that because of his sore wrist, he won’t start swinging the bat again until tomorrow and likely won’t be ready for game action until Friday.
Here is today’s lineup for the Pirates — Andrew McCutchen (CF), Chase d’Arnaud (2B), Pedro Alvarez (3B), Matt Diaz (LF), Garrett Jones (RF), Steve Pearce (1B), Chris Snyder (C), Pedro Ciriaco (SS), Kevin Correia.
And for the Yankees — Derek Jeter (SS), Russell Martin (C), Mark Teixeira (1B), Alex Rodriguez (DH), Robinson Cano (2B), Andruw Jones (LF), Eric Chavez (3B), Justin Maxwell (RF), Melky Mesa (CF). RHP Bartolo Colon will start.
Correia will go four innings, and Charlie Morton is expected to follow him with three innings. Jose Veras will pitch an inning and Daniel McCutchen will go an inning or two, depending on how everyone else’s work shakes out in terms of going the full projected innings before hitting their pitch counts.
Paul Maholm will go four innings tomorrow against Baltimore, and his scheduled relievers are Joel Hanrahan, Evan Meek, Chris Resop, Jeff Karstens and left-hander Tony Watson.
