Pregame: Yates tears tendon

Reliever Tyler Yates visited Dr. James Andrews (cue ominous music) and was diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. Yates will be re-examined in six weeks.

Yates, 33, was attempting to come back from Tommy John surgery, which he had on July 14, 2009. He pitched in five spring training games (nine innings) and put up a 12.46 ERA. He’s admitted to mulling retirement after his last operation, and this latest setback might make him consider it again.
