Pregame: Cedeno surging

WASHINGTON — Is Ronny Cedeno making a rebound? It’s sure looked that way over the past couple of weeks. Cedeno has reached base safely in 13 of his past 15 games, with 14 hits in 45 at-bats (.311).

More importantly, Cedeno has seven hits in his past 12 at-bats (.583) with runners in scoring position. He started the year 1 for 11 with RISP.

»»» Neil Walker has a career .378 batting average against the Nats.

»»» Right-hander Kevin Hart threw some live batting practice on the field earlier this afternooon.

»»» Howzabout Daniel McCutchen? His 0.53 ERA ranks fourth among all relievers in the majors.

»»» Pedro Alvarez and Lyle Overbay are not in the lineup tonight, presumably because lefty John Lannan pitches for the Nats. I’ll update that, if necessary, after we chat with manager Clint Hurdle.

Lineups for tonight’s game:

Pirates (18-22) – 1. Andrew McCutchen cf, 2. Jose Tabata lf, 3. Neil Walker 2b, 4. Matt Diaz rf, 5. Steve Pearce 1b, 6. Brandon Wood 3b, 7. Chris Snyder c, 8. Ronny Cedeno ss, 9. Paul Maholm lhp (1-5, 3.60)

Nationals (19-21) – TBA 9. John Lannan rhp (2-4, 4.79)
