Pregame: Cedeno out with sore knee

PHILADELPHIA — Shortstop Ronny Cedeno is out of action due to a sore right knee, which he injured in a collision with Xavier Paul in the second inning of Thursday’s game against Atlanta. “It’s just bruised,” Cedeno said. “It’s tough to move side to side.” Manager Clint Hurdle said he wasn’t sure yet if Cedeno will be available to pinch hit tonight.

»»» Right-hander James McDonald hasn’t allowed a run in 11 2/3 innings, the fourth-longest active streak in the NL. Jeff Karstens set the team high this season by tossing 15 2/3 straight scoreless innings. Since April 27, McDonald’s 2.68 ERA ranks eighth among NL pitchers.

»»» Hunter Pence’s arrival today in Philly is potentially bad news for the Pirates. In 67 games against the Pirates, Pence has hit .314 with eight homers, 38 RBI and a .840 OPS. Since 2010, he has 44 hits against the Pirates — the most by any player in the majors against one team. He is 5 for 8 in his career against McDonald.
