BRADENTON, Fla. — Infielder Josh Rodriguez was in minor league camp with the Pirates at the start of spring training and played for them in a Grapefruit League game just a few days ago. However, he has signed a minor league contract with the Mets after being cut on Tuesday by the Pirates.
The Pirates claimed Rodriguez, 27, in December 2010 in the Rule 5 draft. They returned him to the Indians last April, then traded to get him back in June. He played for Double-A Altoona and two Triple-A clubs last year and hit a combined .258 with seven homers and 30 RBI.
