Locke recalled from Indy

DETROIT — It’s like a family reunion for the Nate McLouth trade. Jason Grilli this morning went on the bereavement list and LHP Jeff Locke was recalled from Triple-A Indy. Locke’s arrival means all four players from that June 3, 2009 swap — Locke, Gorkys Hernandez, Charlie Morton and even McLouth himself — are on the Pirates’ active roster. Grilli is expected to return Tuesday.

Locke had been scheduled to start today for Indy — “That’s as fresh as it gets, I guess,” he said –so he’s ready to pitch right away out of the bullpen. Manager Clint Hurdle said Locke was brought up to pitch for length, not to face soley lefty-on-lefty situations. The Tigers have five lefty batters in their lineup today.

Unbelievable!! 17 strikeouts out of 27 outs. They never fail to disgust me on their lack of hitting. Fat Pedro as the DH?? He is proving every day that he definitely does not belong here. Why aren’t the owners trying to do something about this horrible display of offense, or lack of it? Once again, our starting pitcher should have had a win, instead of another loss. Even Andrew was terrible in this game. The Pirates are going to set an all time record for offensive strikeouts. Here is my list of the present Pirates to get rid of, permanently: Barmes, McLouth, Jones, and Barajas, and temporarily send Fat Pedro to Indy or Altoona until he learns to hit.

  2. Double D says:

Get rid of Barajas? He’s batting .308 with a .940 OPS in May. He was horrible the first few weeks of the season, but next to Cutch, he’s the only one hitting right now.

  3. John Lease says:

At least one group of Pirates hit .500

  4. Lamar says:

As a Braves fan I am glad McLouth is gone from Atlanta. He was awful.

  5. Chuck H. says:

To Double D: I was referring to Barajas’ defense, not his hitting. He already has several passed balls, which has caused a problems.

  6. wdmason says:

I would have never moved Pedro up to the number 4 spot. Why move him when he was hot? I couldnt believe it when it happened and it turned out to be a huge failure. Im beginning to think we may have managerial problems. .
