Happy UFA Day, kiddies. The third update:
• Quiet regarding Penguins, who remain optimistic of keeping LW Ruslan Fedotenko but are expecting D Rob Scuderi to be out of their price range. Minnesota and Scuderi makes sense, according to folks within the NHL.
• Penguins are one of several teams in talks with representatives for RW Mike Knuble. As of now, word is the Kings are the front runners.
• A couple of readers have asked, so I’ll say this now: RW Marian Hossa will not be a Penguin.
Speaking of the obvious, a salary cap reminder: Pens are committed to $51.2 million against 2009-10 cap, which is set at $56.8 million. They are at $40.2 million against cap for 2010-11.
