Author: Rob Rossi

Rob Rossi is the lead sports columnist for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He has been called many names, but “Rossi” is the one to which he most often responds. He joined the Trib in November 2002 and was promoted to the columnist role in July 2014. Previously, he had covered the NHL’s Penguins (2006-14) and MLB’s Pirates (2006), while also working on beats associated with the NFL’s Steelers (2005-06) and the NCAA’s Pitt (2004-06). He has won national and local awards for his coverage of youth concussions and athletes’ charities. Also, he is a member of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association executive committee and the Pittsburgh chapter chair. Raised in Crafton and Green Tree and a graduate of West Virginia University, he has covered a Super Bowl, All-Star Games in baseball and hockey, the NCAA basketball tournament and over 100 Stanley Cup playoff games, including the Cup Final twice. Oh, and his sports reporting has led him to brief chats with Mick Jagger and Bruce Springsteen; so that’s pretty cool. He is a regular contributor on TV with WPXI, Root Sports Pittsburgh and TSN. Also, he is the authorized biographer of Penguins star Evgeni Malkin.

  1. SJB says:

At what point are we going to get over the nicety of a new season finally starting and focus on the reality that this is the same team (minus a couple new faces) that imploded like a girl’s junior team in the playoffs last year and still has serious questions surrounding themselves and their ability to do anything much more than just make it to the playoffs.

I think we need a refresher course on how this team embarrassed themselves and their fans in that last series with the Flyers and haven’t done much of anything post-regular season since 2009.

Less than a year ago, many people were calling for Bylsma’s head and had some players on their chopping list and rightfully so. Can we pick up where we left off then, or are we going to sweep that ugliness under the carpet with the new season just like Pirates zealot’s and Nutting apologists seem to do every spring.

  2. Jandy says:

SJB, why is it a girls’ junior team? C’mon, dude get with the program.

Also, the season has yet to start, we don’t know how this team will even look, and you’re already going to fire everyone? Did someone wiz in your Cheerios?
I mean, give it a chance man.
