Pitt shoots past Cincinnati


Sam Young scored 18 points and DeJuan Blair added 17 to lead five Pitt players in double figures in a 85-69 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon at Petersen Events Center.

The No. 4 Panthers improved to 23-2 overall and 10-2 in the Big East heading into Monday’s game at top-ranked Connecticut.

Jermaine Dixon (14), Gilbert Brown (12) and Levance Fields (11) also scored in double figures for the Panthers, who shot 67.4 percent from the field, equaling a school record for shooting. Fields added 13 assists and no turnovers in 32 minutes.

Cincinnati (17-9, 7-6) had its three-game winning streak snapped. Mike Williams scored 17 points and Larry Davis added 13 for the Bearcats. Cincinnati’s leading scorer, Deonta Vaughn, was held to nine points on 3 of 7 shooting.
