DeJuan Blair needed only 12 minutes to reach a double-double and finished with 20 points and 18 rebounds, as No. 4 Pitt bullied past DePaul, 80-61, tonight in a Big East Conference game.
The Petersen Events Center crowd, which included Arizona Cardinals All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald sitting courtside, watched Pitt (25-2, 12-2) withstand DePaul’s six 3-pointers to maintain a 40-30 halftime lead. The Panthers opened the second half with a 16-2 run to take command.
Sam Young added 16 points, Tyrell Biggs 13 and Jermaine Dixon 11 for Pitt, which won its seventh consecutive game.
Blair had 16 points and 16 rebounds (nine offensive) in the first half alone, when he made 7 of 12 shots from the field and 2 of 2 free throws.
DePaul (8-19, 0-14) which has lost a school-record 14 consecutive games was led by Dar Tucker’s 18 points. Will Walker added 17, Jeremiah Kelly 11 and Mac Koshwal 10 for the Blue Demons.
Pitt’s next game is at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Providence.
