DAYTON, Ohio – Pitt scored 10 of the final 12 points of the game and beat Oklahoma State, 84-76, this afternoon in an East Region second round game.
Sam Young scored a game-high 32 points, DeJuan Blair had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Levance Fields had 13 points and nine assists for the top-seeded Panthers (30-4).
No. 8 seed Oklahoma State (23-12) made 10 3-pointers in the first half and the game was tied 49-all at the break. Fields gave the Panthers the lead for good on a driving layup with 2:11 to play to break a 74-74 tie.
Pitt will play No. 4 seed Xavier (27-7), which beat Wisconsin, 60-49, at 7:27 p.m. on Thursday at Boston in the Sweet 16. The winner will play either Duke or Villanova to reach the Final Four.
Obi Muonelo scored 19 points to lead Oklahoma State, which went 2 for 12 from 3-point range in the second half.
