Gibbs, Taylor invited to U.S. team trials


Pitt sophomore guard Ashton Gibbs and incoming freshman forward Dante Taylor have been invited to the USA Basketball Men’s Under-19 National Team Trials, earning the chance to play for the team’s coach, Jamie Dixon, this summer.

Trials will begin Tuesday at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. A total of 17 athletes will try out for the 12-man USA roster, which will depart for New Zealand on June 25.

The USA National Team will compete in the FIBA Under-19 World Championships July 2-12 in Auckland, New Zealand.

Dixon will coach the team and have some input on the selection of players.

Some other invitees include Truck Bryant of West Virginia, Florida-bound guard Kenny Boynton, Tyshawn Taylor of Kansas and Seth Curry of Duke.
