The Pitt men’s basketball team will play three rivals – Connecticut, Louisville and Georgetown – in an eight-day span in mid-January to highlight its 2009-10 Big East Conference schedule, released Thursday.
The 18-game Big East schedule opens with DePaul on Dec. 28 at Petersen Events Center, followed by three road games. It is the first time in two decades the Panthers will play three of their first four Big East games away from home.
Pitt will play all 15 Big East teams once, as well as home-and-home meetings with Seton Hall, St. John’s and West Virginia.
After the Big East opener with DePaul, Pitt, which returns one starter from a 31-5 Elite Eight team, will play at Syracuse, at Cincinnati and at Connecticut. The Connecticut game, at the XL Center in Hartford on Jan. 13, begins the grueling eight-day stretch that finishes with home games against Louisville and Georgetown at Petersen Events Center.
Pitt’s non-conference schedule, released last month, includes a two-game tournament in Kansas City and a visit to Madison Square Garden to play Indiana in the Jimmy V. Classic. The Panthers will play Duquesne on Dec. 2 at Mellon Arena and play host to Robert Morris on Feb. 8 in the middle of Big East action.
