Pitt senior middle linebacker Adam Gunn has earned Big East Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Panthers’ 54-27 victory at Buffalo this past weekend.
Gunn had a career-high three sacks and 11 total tackles as the Panthers improved to 2-0. Through two games, Gunn leads Pitt in tackles (19), sacks (5) and tackles for loss (5.5). He is ranked second nationally in sacks (tied, 2.50 sacks/game) and fourth in tackles for loss (tied, 2.75 TFLs/game).
Gunn is helping to ease the sting of losing All-America middle linebacker Scott McKillop, a rookie with the 49ers. One year after suffering a season-ending broken neck, Gunn has evolved into the de facto general of a defense that never had to worry about leadership abilities when McKillop was around.
