Texas guard injured in warmups, out for Pitt game

KANSAS CITY – Texas guard Varez Ward will miss tonight’s game with Pitt (4-0) in the CBE Classic after suffering a right knee injury during pre-game warm-ups.
Ward, a 6-2 sophomore guard, had started all three games for the No. 3-ranked Longhorns (3-0). He was averaging 6.7 points and 3.0 rebounds, with a team-high seven steals. About 10 minutes before tip-off, while the teams were warming up, Ward was wheeled off the court on a stretcher. The injury is being evaluated.
Freshman guard J’Covan Brown will start in place of Ward.
