Pitt defensive back Elijah Fields has been kicked off the Panthers football team for disciplinary reasons, head coach Dave Wannstedt announced today.
Fields would have been a fifth-year senior next season. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder from Duquesne High School recorded 34 tackles and shared for the team-lead with three interceptions last year for the Panthers (10-3).
The dismissal ends a largely unfulfilled career for Fields, a former star recruit who started only eight games in three years, six last season. He sat out the 2007 season after being suspended for violating team rules.
