Pitt returned to practice Tuesday after taking off the past two days. Pitt had practiced or played 12 days in a row, and according to NCAA rules, was mandated to sit Sunday and Monday.
“It was something we needed,” Jamie Dixon said. “It was good for us.”
— Talked to the Big East today and here is the schedule for men’s basketball 2009-2010 postseason awards. The all-Big East teams — three five-man teams — will be released Sunday and the individual awards are slated for Monday and Tuesday. The “lesser” awards — defensive player of the year, most improved, sixth-man and sportsmanship — are revealed Monday. The Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year are announced Tuesday, when the tournament begins.
— Not sure if this has been reported, but Pitt became the first Big East team this season to fail to record a steal in a game when the Panthers went without a theft in the 71-64 victory against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden. The Panthers rank last in the Big East in steals per game at 5.1.
— Former Pitt star DeJuan Blair is scheduled to appear on ESPN’s First Take at roughly 10 a.m. Wednesday. Blair, a rookie with the San Antonio Spurs, is reportedly going to talk a bit about Pitt basketball.
— Seldom-used redshirt freshman forward Dwight Miller missed practice with a re-occurrence of the heel injury that bothered him last season. Miller has played a total of four minutes against Big East teams this season. He is averaging 0.5 points and 1.1 rebounds.
