Panthers get Philly small forward

Pitt has landed another top Philadelphia-area basketball player.

Jaylen Bond, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound junior small forward who helped lead Plymouth-Whitemarsh to the 2010 PIAA Class AAAA championship, has committed to the Panthers.

Bond, who picked Pitt over West Virginia and Temple, joins Girard College 6-1 combo guard John Johnson in Pitt’s recruiting class of 2011.

Bond, regarded as the No. 69 overall prospect and the No. 15 small forward by ESPN, averaged 18.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for Plymouth-Whitemarsh (30-2).

A first-team all-state selection, he had 26 points and 15 rebounds in a state semifinal victory over North Allegheny. Bond took an unofficial visit to Pitt last weekend for an AAU tournament and called Pitt coach Jamie Dixon on Friday night to give him the decision.
