Pitt hoops hires assistant coach
Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon will hire Providence assistant Pat Skerry to join his staff, according to multiple sources.
Skerry, 40, fills the vacancy created when Tom Herrion was hired as the new head coach at Marshall. Sherry, who spent the past two seasons at Providence, is known to have deep recruiting ties in the New England area and in East coast prep schools.
Skerry is in his 18th year as a collegiate coach, including three seasons as an assistant at Rhode Island. He also worked as an assistant at College of Charleston – where he worked with Herrion – as well as William & Mary and Northeastern.
He was the head coach at Division III Curry (Mass.) College in 1996 at age 26, making him the second-youngest coach in the nation at the time.
Skerry reportedly visited Pitt this week and accepted the job today.
