Sorry about the delay getting this posted. Just landed from Big East Media Day in Rhode Island and heard the good news.
In light of Jabaal Sheard’s reduced charges on Wednesday, coach Dave Wannstedt reinstated the senior defensive end following a two-week suspension for his involvement in a South Side fight. Sheard, 21, pleaded guilty to summary disorderly conduct and was fined $300. He will pay restitution for the victim’s medical expenses. Sheard had been charged with felony aggravated assault, and two misdemeanors, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
Wannstedt did say Sheard will be kept on a short leash and subject to internal discipline and accountability.
“This situation with Jabaal was as surprising as it was disappointing to me,” Wannstedt said in a statement. “Until this incident, his behavior has always been representative of the high standards we have for our program on and off the field. I’m confident he will learn from this and be wiser moving forward.”
Sounds as if Sheard should be ready to play in the Sept. 2 opener at Utah provided he keeps in line.
