Pitt held a Thursday morning practice in full pads, its first of two workouts today. The Panthers return to the field at 3:30 p.m. for another two-hour practice. This is the first full squad two-a-day at training camp.
*** Defensive end Greg Romeus, out for the past four practices with stiffness in his back, returned to the field Thursday morning, but he didn’t do much. Romeus was dressed in full pads and performed individual agility drills with the other D-linemen, but he didn’t take part in any one-on-one or 11-on-11 drills. Defensive end Shayne Hale also was limited in his workouts – not sure why – leaving Nate Nix to take a lot of reps at right defensive end with the first team.
*** Right guard Ryan Turnley, who left Wednesday’s practice with a shoulder injury, didn’t practice this morning. Juantez Hollins worked with the second-team offensive line at right guard.
*** Wide receiver Jon Baldwin also was limited at practice today. He took part in the individual drills, including 20-yard come-back patterns and seemed to be moving well. But when the team proceeded into 11-on-11 drills, he didn’t participate.
*** It was a short practice with a lot of individual and one-on-one drills, so there weren’t a whole lot of highlights. But here are a few.
*** Wide receiver Devin Street, who worked with the first team in place of Baldwin, made an acrobatic, over-the-shoulder catch of a 50-yard pass from Tino Sunseri while closely guarded by Antwuan Reed.
*** Dion Lewis literally juked cornerback Ricky Gary to the ground with an open-field move on the way to a 55-yard touchdown run.
