Pitt Steelers conflict will stay Saturday

Thanks to the vagaries of the NFL playoffs, Pitt basketball fans will have to set their priorities on Saturday.

Just contacted the Pitt basketball office to see if there was any chance the 7 p.m. tipoff with Seton Hall on Saturday could be moved to accommodate the 4:30 p.m. NFL playoff game between the Steelers and the Ravens at Heinz Field.

The answer is “No.”

The Pitt women play Notre Dame at 2 p.m. at Petersen Events Center and the 7 p.m. time slot for Seton Hall-Pitt men on Fox Sports Pittsburgh is completely booked.

So, expect the Pete to be at less-than-capacity for the Big East game – which should start sometime during the second half of the Steelers-Ravens game at Heinz Field.

Ironically, the last time Pitt played Seton Hall was the day after the February blizzard last year that dumped 20 inches on Western Pennsylvania. Only 6,681 fans showed up, the second smallest crowd to see a game at the 12,508-seat Petersen Events Center.
