Birch named McDonald’s All-American

Pitt recruit Khem Birch was named to the 24-man McDonald’s All-American roster on Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-9, 210-pound center from Notre Dame (Mass.) Prep is the sixth Pitt recruit to receive the national recognition and the second in the past three years (Dante Taylor) following a 22-year drought.

Birch, rated as the No. 1 center and the No. 11 player overall in the Class of 2011, according to Rivals.com, will play for the West all-star team in the McDonald’s All-America game is March 30 at United Center in Chicago.
