Senior guard Brad Wanamaker won the Big East Sportsmanship Award on Monday, one day after being named second-team all-Big East.
The 6-foot-4 Wanamaker is the second Pitt player to win the award in the past four years. Ronald Ramon shared the honor in 2007-08.
In other Big East awards announced on Monday, Syracuse senior forward Rick Jackson was named the Defensive Player of the Year; St. John’s senior guard Dwight Hardy earned the Most Improved Player award and Hardy’s teammate, forward Justin Burrell, won the Sixth Man Award.
The awards were determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The winners of the remaining regular-season awards — Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year — will be announced Tuesday between sessions of The Big East Championship.
