Pittsburgh Jamfest underway; Birch readies for all-star game

The three-day Pittsburgh Jamfest, which attracts more than 200 u14-u17 basketball  teams from around the nation, gets underway today. Games are played at Petersen Events Center, Fitzgerald Field House and Trees Hall on Pitt’s campus; LaRoche College andand Chatham University; Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill and Allderdice, Westinghouse, Peabody, Ambridge, Oliver and Sewickley Academy high schools.

*** Top 2011 recruit Khem Birch will play in the Jordan Brand Classic in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday night. The game will be aired

at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. Birch will be on the East all-star team and if he wears the same long-sleeved shirt that he donned in the McDonald’s All-American game, he will be easy to spot. This is Birch’s second all-star game after posting 15 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots in the McDonald’s All-America game two weeks ago.
