Center Khem Birch completed his post-season all-star game circuit with 12 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots in the inaugural Mary Kline Classic on Saturday at the Pennington School in New Jersey.
Birch’s teammate, Panther recruit John Johnson, just missed a double-double with 10 points, nine assists and two steals for the Red all-stars, which lost to the Black all-stars, 110-87.
In three post-season all-star games, Birch averaged 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. He had 15 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots in the McDonald’s All-Star game and 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocks in 16 minutes in the Jordan Brand Classic.
The Mary Kline Classic was organized by Alex Kline of TheRecruitScoop.com to honor his late mother, who died from cancer. The event raised $7,000, which will be donated to the American Cancer Association and National Brain Tumor Society.
Georgetown-bound Jabril Trawick and LaSalle recruit Jerrell Wright were named co-MVPs for the game.
Pitt’s Class of 2011 — Birch, Johnson, Malcolm Gilbert and Durand Johnson – is expected to enroll in time for the start of the June 20 summer session, coach Jamie Dixon said earlier this month. The Green Tree summer league starts the same day.
