Guard Cameron Wright was one of 21 players selected to attend the USA Basketball U19 tryouts June 17-24 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The tryouts will determine the 12-member team that will represent the USA in the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship. Jeremy Lamb of national champion Connecticut and James Bell of Villanova also are among those invited to the tryouts.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Wright, a rising redshirt freshman, is trying to become the second Pitt player in three years to make the U19 team, following Ashton Gibbs for the Jamie Dixon-coached gold medal-winning team in the summer of ’09. This year’s team, coached by Paul Hewitt, will compete in world championships June 30-July 10 in Latvia.
