Recruits start arriving on campus

The class of 2011 is starting to tickle into Oakland.

Guard John Johnson arrived on campus on Friday, center Malcolm Gilbert is scheduled to arrive today and center Khem Birch is flying in on Sunday.

Not sure about wing Durand Johnson’s ETA from Baltimore but coach Jamie Dixon said on Friday afternoon that he fully expects all four to be on campus in time for the start of summer classes on Monday and, later that night, the opening games in the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Pro-Am Greentree Summer League.

Dixon said because Pitt’s summer classes start a little earlier than other schools — West Virginia starts July 27, for example — there is always a last-minute rush to make sure all of the paperwork is complete.
