The Pitt basketball team will play Louisville, USF and West Virginia twice during the 2011-12 season as part of its Big East opponents released today.
Other notable home games in the 18-game conference schedule include Georgetown, St. John’s and Villanova.
Pitt’s road games include trips to defending NCAA champion Connecticut, pre-season top 10 Syracuse, Marquette and Notre Dame.
The dates and times for the 2011-12 Big East schedule will be released in early September.
This is the second year in a row that USF is a home-and-home foe with Pitt, but the schedule posts some serious challenges for the Panthers, as they meet most of the top Big East teams away from Petersen Events Center.
There are five Big East teams (not including Pitt) in the ESPN Early Top 25 for the 2011-12 season – No. 5 Connecticut, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 Louisville, No. 14 Marquette and No. 22 Cincinnati. Pitt plays all but Cincinnati on the road (although the Panthers also get Louisville at the Pete). This is the first time Pitt will play a home-and-home with Louisville.
