Gibbs makes World University team

Pitt senior guard Ashton Gibbs was named to the USA Basketball World University Games team, while West Virginia center Aaric Murray missed the cut for the 12-man roster.

The team, coached by Purdue’s Matt Painter, will represent the USA at the 2011 World University Games Aug. 13-23 in Shenzhen, China.

In all, 24 countries will compete in the international competition.

In 2009, Gibbs helped lead the USA Under-19 team to a gold medal at the FIBA World Championships in New Zealand.
