Sophomore forward J.J. Moore will miss Friday’s season-opener with Albany while serving a one-game suspension due to a secondary violation of NCAA rules.
Moore unknowingly competed in an unauthorized summer basketball league game this summer. The violation carries a mandatory one-game suspension. When Pitt coaches learned that Moore had played in the game, the Panthers reported the incident to the NCAA.
Moore, who had started at small forward in both exhibition games, will be eligible to compete on Sunday when Pitt hosts Rider at the Petersen Events Center. As a freshman in 2010-11, Moore averaged 3.7 points in 23 games.
Sophomore Lamar Patterson is expected to start at small forward for the No. 10 Panthers.
