Taylor, Patterson out tonight

PHILADELPHIA – Pitt junior center Dante Taylor and sophomore small forward Lamar Patterson will not play tonight in the No. 17 Panthers’ game against Penn at the Palestra.

Taylor is suffering from migraines and Patterson is serving the first of a two-game suspension imposed by coach Jamie Dixon. Patterson, the team’s starting small forward, will also miss Sunday’s game against Robert Morris.

Freshman Khem Birch and sophomore J.J. Moore are expected to start at center and small forward, respectively.

Taylor, who is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds, sat the final nine minutes of the first half of the La Salle game on Tuesday after being struck in the neck/throat, but returned to play in the second half.

Patterson is averaging 7.5 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds. The Pitt athletic department didn’t disclose why Patterson was being suspended, other than to say it was a coach’s decision.
