Three former undrafted Pitt players — Gilbert Brown, Brad Wanamaker and Tyrell Biggs — are trying to make a quick impression in NBA training camps that began on Friday.
Brown, a 6-6 shooting guard, is part of the Boston Celtics’ camp; Wanamaker, a 6-4 combo guard, is with the Atlanta Hawks, and Tyrell Biggs, a 6-8 forward who graduated from Pitt after the 2008-09 season, is in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ training camp.
Biggs, 25, the starting power forward on Pitt’s 2008-09 Elite Eight team, was the 15th overall pick in the NBA D-League draft in November, going to the Canton Charge. The 6-foot-8, 250-pound Biggs played in Europe the past two seasons.
Brown, who played in Germany during the lockout, could hook on with a Celtics club that has only seven players under contract and flirted with the former Pitt 1,000-point scorer with the 55th pick in this summer’s NBA draft.
Wanamaker, who played in Italy during the lockout, attended Pitt’s 97-70 victory over VMI on Tuesday at Petersen Events Center, receiving his Big East championship ring.
