Pitt departs for NYC and Big East Tournament

The Pitt men’s basketball team left about a half-hour ago on a chartered bus to the airport to fly to New York City for the Big East Tournament. The team had a light workout on Monday afternoon.

Coach Jamie Dixon said freshman guard John Johnson (back spasms), who was limited to three minutes in the 74-65 loss at Connecticut, practiced and looked good.

The players, who have to win five games in five days to win an automatic big into the NCAA Tournament, were upbeat. Seniors Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson are 0-3 in the Big East Tournament and no player on the roster has ever won a game at the Garden in the Big East Tournament.

“Everyone has the same goal,” Robinson said.
