In his final college game, former Pitt enrollee Darnell Dodson came off the bench to net 14 points and 10 rebounds for Southern Mississippi. He also had a team-high four steals.
It was the third career double-double for the maligned Dodson, who spent time at four schools and was kicked off the Southern Miss team in April after he was arrested for felony grand larceny.
“I just wish we had Darnell for another year,” Southern Miss coach Larry Eustachy said. “It ended too soon for Darnell. A lot was of his own making. It’s quite a story. I’m really proud of him. I think he’s got a bright future.
“He’s really, really a changed person. There’s no telling how far he can take his talent.”
Dodson accounted for six consecutive points that gave Southern Miss a 45-40 lead in the second half, its biggest of the game. He fouled out with 31.4 seconds remaining.
