The boos grew louder each time the Syracuse-UNC Asheville score was announced during Thursday’s second session. Fans were still stinging over some controversial officiating calls against Asheville late in its 72-65 loss in the afternoon session.
Syracuse guard Scoop Jardine heard the crowd’s wrath during the game, particularly when a lane violation was called on Asheville after he missed a free throw.
“I thought they were Scooping,” Jardine said with a laugh, “especially when I went to the foul line.”
Jardine didn’t think the jeering was that bad.
“We’ve been in hostile environments before,” he said. “It don’t matter. I tell you one thing, I heard my dad. I heard my dad in the stands. If I can hear him, they weren’t that loud.”
