Former Duquesne coach Ron Everhart is negotiating with West Virginia officials and is expected to officially accept an assistant’s position on Mountaineers basketball coach Bob Huggins’ staff later today, a source told the Tribune-Review.
Everhart, a native of Fairmont, W.Va., was fired March 23 after six seasons as the Duquesne basketball coach. Everhart compiled a record of 99-89 with the Dukes and is their first coach since Mike Rice (1979-1982) to win more games than he lost.
Everhart also was the head coach at McNeese State from 1995-2001 and Northeastern from 2002-2006. He has an 18-year record of 273-261, including 16-15 last season at Duquesne.
