CLEVELAND – That headline up there is intended to be read like the dude from “Spinal Tap.”
You’re welcome.
I’m here at Progressive Field, and I’ll be here all weekend. The clubhouse won’t open for another few minutes, but here are a couple pics I took from a high downtown perch this afternoon …

This is the site of the coming convention center, right by Public Square. In the background, you can find the totally invalid Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the Lake by the Mistake.

And this is Public Square, right in the shadow of Cleveland’s tallest building, the Key Tower. Very nice. If you haven’t been to Cleveland and go by general impressions, you probably are underestimating it the same way people underestimate Pittsburgh. Well worth your two hours and change in the car.
I’ll have some stuff when I get back up from the clubhouse.
UPDATE 3:58 p.m.: Here are lineups …
Pirates:
- Jose Tabata, LF
- Xavier Paul, RF
- Andrew McCutchen, CF
- Neil Walker, 2B
- Garrett Jones, DH
- Lyle Overbay, 1B
- Josh Harrison, 3B
- Mike McKenry, C
- Ronny Cedeno, SS
Indians:
- Grady Sizemore, CF
- Michael Brantley, 2B
- Asdrubal Cabrera, SS
- Travis Hafner, DH
- Shin-Soo Choo, RF
- Carlos Santana, C
- Matt LaPorta, 1B
- Orlando Cabrera, 2B
- Jack Hannahan, 3B
3:59: ESPN’s Jim Bowden backs McCutchen on the weird scoring decision.
Me, I’m still trying to wrap my head around Michael Bourn being charged with an error while diving yesterday. You should know, by the way, that the Pirates have appealed this.
5:21: OK, sorry for the delay. Many conversations down there.
Topic A, by a wide margin, is the McCutchen scoring decision. These guys are really angry about that. I kind of like that. Not something I’ve seen a lot in years past. I’ll have much more on this with my column for tomorrow.
5:40: Couple quick pics …

The Indians take BP on a really nice day here.

Pedro Ciriaco get his hair cut, one of several players to do so in this little room under Progressive Field. Daniel Moskos just got done, and Josh Harrison waits his turn.

I love your pictures. Keep em coming.
Beat em Bucs !
Dejan – Go throw a match in the river and see what happens.
But you better stand back.
An appeal of another team’s appeal?
What is this: politics or baseball?
Take it to the Bud-shyster for a final ruling a la the Supreme Court.
(I looked up how to spell shyster and found this: Origin of SHYSTER- probably from German Scheisser, literally, defecator). Those wacky Germans!
This should be a fun weekend, especially if Dejan brings at least two of three home

Looking forward to Hanrahan facing Hannahan
Too bad ours isn’t spelled Hanlahan.
Cause then we could say our Hanny scared the L outta their Hanny
Dejan – check out AJ Roccos, a cool coffee bar a few blocks from the Jake, corner of Huron and E 9th. They also have Guinness on tap!
Dejan,
Great to see you blogging somewhere where I don’t have to pay to read it. Been a big fan of your work for years. Enjoy the new digs!
DK, looking good in Cleveland! Love the photos, and great to see the early lineup.
Biz, you can put me down for Tyler, Texas! I’m one and the same with your “deep in the heart of Texas” entry.
Oh, and Josh Tomlin, the guy the Tribe is throwing tonight graduated from our local high school here in Whitehouse, Texas! This is one game I won’t be pulling for … y’all thought I was going to say it, didn’t you! Thought I was going to say I’d be turning my back on the Bucs tonight … Nope, one game I won’t be pulling for Josh! This game and if we were to face him in the World Series this year!
Ho!
What did you call me Bay?
Dejan, didn’t get a chance to participate in your live chat earlier, but something that occurred in yesterdays game in Houston is still bugging me…
Specifically Andrew McCutchen not controlling 2nd base on that fly ball in the top of the first, which resulted in runners on 2nd and 3rd. It really put a lot of stress on McDonald and although the Pirates escaped damage, it’s really poor situational defense on Andrew’s part.
Does anyone from CH down take note of this and encourage Andrew that to become a complete player, he has to eliminate mental blunders like that? Or do they just look the other way?
Good Luck Bucs!!!
DEJAN!!!!!!!!! IM HOME !!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to hear that the Pirates have challenged Bourne’s error. How do you give an error to a diving attempt? Jones should have gotten a hit and an RBI.
A Pedro Ciriaco sighting!!! Glad to see him staying ready
@BIZROW – Roxbury, New Jersey – back on board
Gotta get a couple this weekend… looks to be the best lineup the team can trot out there at the moment… will be nice to see guys get healthy, some of the lesser contributors move along and these young guys continue to grow together, improve together and win together…beat’em Bucs!
Welcome SlackBoss
@Daryle, will you PLEASE join one of our fantasy leagues next season?
Amen Nate, Beat em Bucs
Daryle’s post brought shivers
Not as much though as the shivers I have thinking, no matter what, on June 17, 2011, we are playing meaningful baseball. Some one called on the FAN, the guy works in a fairly big sporting goods store in the North Hills, he said they can’t keep PBC stuff in stock
I’m going on vacation tomorrow to Vegas. JMB and anyone else, please keep track of new signings here, I’ll keep track of the number of times people stop me and chat about their love for this club.
Still some big mountains to climb, the hope but expect meter is turning…..
One of the benefits of Pedro being sidelined for so long: he gets to watch his team win without him. That alone will help calm his over-anxious, lethargic and all-points-in-between approaches at the plate. Should give him some confidence that he doesn’t have to drive in 6 run/game or hit a 450′ blast every time he swings…
Great job DK!! … love the pix & inside info.. So Ciarcos here for a hair cut and not a cup coffee?!?! Ok….
Btw Biz I didn’t see Reading, Pa on your list.. You can add that! Thanks
Biz…
Have a great time! Put a little cash (just $10 or so) on the PBC winning the division and just sit back and watch how it plays out…what a ride they’ve given us so far…I’m sure you’ll be at a sportsbook or sports bar to watch the upcoming games. I’ll be at PNC on Tuesday nite… and possibly Friday nite. Very much looking forward to it!
So who got the blog title in first, DK or Biertempfel?
@Daryle: DARYLE! Welcome home.
@Bizrow – Hilliard, Ohio (a suburb of Columbus)
Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
That doesn’t look like Public Square to me, Dejan. Where’s the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument?
Re: Ciriaco and hairCUT. Methinks he should be CUT, period.
