Karen Price has news updates from Atlanta on the Bucco Blog.

  1. TS says:

trib really needs to fix the bugs. the “news updates” link has been displaying “no page found” for weeks now…

  2. Dejan Kovacevic says:

@TS: Try it now. That’s on me, not anyone else. Something happens to that link where it doesn’t carry over from day to day, so I have to keep refreshing it myself.

  3. Karen22 says:

  4. Keith says:

Other than the McKenry home run game, was there any game this season you would rather have had the nation see than the one last night? It was quintessential 2011 Bucs, including scoring runs by making outs (my favorite part of the legacy).

  5. Dave G in Mason, OH says:

Off-subject: Bengals say Carson Palmer has retired…

  6. Curt says:

I agree with you Keith. Great game last night, hope we keep rolling.
Is it just me or does this look like a legit MLB lineup with GI Jones and Pedro in it?
Just wish Steve Pearce was at 1st. He needs to be in the lineup!

  7. Keith says:

I mean, who’s the first baseman next year? It’s not Overbay. It’s likely not Jones. Put someone in there!

  8. Bizrow says:

Bengals are playing hard ball right now, we will see

Ok, lunatics, lets get another tonight.

  9. Pablo says:

Nothing from Karen Price on the Bucco Blog. Last update was Rob Biertempfel’s from pre-game on Sunday. Do her updates (from yesterday and today presumably) get posted somewhere else?

    July 26th, 2011 – 5:21 pm

Because Tommy Hanson is righthanded, and Steve Pearce doesn’t hit righties well. Simple as that.

  10. Jason says:

Whenever I click on the Bucco Blog, it just takes me to the “Mystery Injury” post from last week.

  11. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

You’ve got to let Pearce get his swings against righties……For some reason Overbay doesn’t hit righties well either……He’s never had more than one week of playing time in a row in the few years he’s been here…..He’s always platooned…..Put him in there!!!

  12. Bizrow says:

This place is a work in progress, give the fellow some time

  13. Bizrow says:

Right now, Huntington is in the 2nd toilet stall in the Federal St bunker, working with his C64, muttering, computer, how could this have happened??

Coonely is getting his hair greased

Nuttin is going “Ooh, donuts” as he counts his moolah and telling NH that toilet paper will cost you from your bonus

Srsly, trust Hurdle, trust the brains now running this site, and believe in the 25 guys on the field

I hope a few may change by Monday, but I expect they will not

Ever been in a stall next to some numnutz in the next one on his phone?

  15. Dejan Kovacevic says:

@Pablo: I think that’s where updates usually go. I can’t be sure. I handle only this little part of our blogosphere.

  16. Pablo says:

Wasn’t blaming Dejan. But he has posted for the last two days that updates from Karen Price are on the Bucco Blog. That is incorrect. Figured he would want to know that, and point us in the correct direction, if, in fact, there is a correct direction. (I’m guessing she just hasn’t updated at all.)

  17. Pablo says:

@Dejan: thanks. I’ll drop it now.

  18. pattonbb says:

Here we go. Nice start against a tough pitcher. Lets get two…at least.

  19. pattonbb says:

    Pedro with an rbi.

Been waiting a while to say that.

  20. Curt says:

I have developed a man crush on Michael McKenry. He’s solid behind the plate and now goes yard! Pick up of the year. Thank you Red Sox.

  21. Keith says:

This game is starting to look ugly for ATL. Boo-hoo.

  22. pattonbb says:

Looks like both bullpens will be busy tonight.

  23. LikeaBugonaRug says:

And nowhere to put Heyward this time. Jeff’s gonna have to pitch to him.

  24. LikeaBugonaRug says:

Welp, there goes that lead. I don’t have the game to watch. Is Jeff getting squeezed? Or just wild?

  25. Bizrow says:

I don’t think Jeff has his doobie game tonight

Lots of pitches, lets see what happens

    Beat Em Bucs

  26. pattonbb says:

Can we call the Overbay experiment over yet?

  27. Happy G says:

I didn’t realize Paul had that strong of an arm.

    Yes, I’m done with Overbay.

How big was that last inning, getting out of the jam?

  28. TS says:

    @Dejan Thanks, sir.

I’d take Brandon Wood at 1B over Overbay. This guy’s career is clearly over. His skills have regressed. Time to hang up the cleats, Lyle.

  29. Duncan says:

McHenry is just a what a ballplayer should be. He’s like the Karstens of catchers.

  30. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

    How pathetic was that????…..botched squeeze????…ouch

  31. TS says:

Hurdle is sometimes a bit too “small ball” and squeeze happy. Bad call by him.

  32. Happy G says:

I don’t know, Paul should have done anything possible to get the bat on the ball. Walker did it yesterday on a hit and run. Good call, poor execution.

  33. buccos since '04 says:

    I guess

  34. Steve Smith says:

Can somebody tell Overbay to get out of the anchor room. He’s weighting this team down.

  35. TS says:

    Alvarez bunting? C’mon Clint.

  36. Steve Smith says:

Maholm’s going to have to pitch a complete game tomorrow to save this bullpen.

  37. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

Our top 5 minor league pitchers (according to have ERA’s of 4 or 5……..Tony Sanchez is batting in the .230’s……???????……..just putting it out there…

  38. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Pedro…….nothing has changed

  39. Steve Smith says:

20 Ks – WTF! Come on offense! Somebody has got to start hitting the ball again on this team.

  40. aglebagel says:

Seriously. Our 3-4-5 hitters all go down swinging against a reliever in his fifth inning??? Who knew our offense could actually get worse?

  41. AJS says:

Going to 16. Anyone who thought getting Pedro back and putting Pearce at first could solve the offensive problems are you paying attention? Pedro still looks lost. I hate that they had to call him back up early. And Pearce looks worse than Pedro tonight.

  42. AJS says:

The squeeze was a decent call there. The braves just guessed right. And Paul has to throw the bat at the ball there. anything to keep his runner from being hung out to dry.

And I didn’t even mid Pedro bunting. Other than the first inning single he was swing the bat poorly anyway. The only flaw in that logic is that over paid is on deck.

  43. AJS says:

And Overpaid just got flat out robbed. Though it may have hooked foul.

  44. MBS says:

At least Alvarez is playing some defense, despite throwing error earlier in game. Both he and Pierce doing nothing at plate though.

  45. buccos since '04 says:

    Buccos ralley baby

  46. MBS says:

McKenry has 3 hits tonight. With Doumit now at AAA, is he too much of a defensive liability to put at 1st base and keep McKenry behind the plate?

  47. AJS says:

So I saw some tweeting action on the sports page with people blaming Hurdle for poor managment of this game. I didn’t pick it up until right around the failed squeeze, which I didn’t feel was an awful call, nor did I think Pedro bunting was that bad a call based on his performance to date. What else is everyone upset about? Can we get some production from the corner infielders and outfielders please? I hope bad deal Neal is watching.

  48. AJS says:

Runners at second and third and…oh look Pedro and Overpaid due up…1 pitch to Pedro and the inning is dead. Does he have any plate patience. Facing a reliever going into his 6th inning of relief and he hacks at the first pitch he sees.

  49. aglebagel says:

How many guys has Pedro left in scoring position tonight?

  50. Steve Smith says:

Don’t know why I can’t go to sleep and stop watching this game. I keep feeling that if I do something bad will happen. This offense needs to do something soon. We had a great chance there, but didn’t get it done. Let’s Go Bucs!

  51. aglebagel says:

This is Procter’s first inning of work, I believe. Your point is still valid, though…

  52. Steve Smith says:

@aglebagel 7 men LOB by pedro.

  53. Steve Smith says:

@aglebagel also that is 3 of those guys left on in scoring position with 2 out.

  54. aglebagel says:

Overbay with a hit… guess it was bound to happen sometime tonight. Maybe.

  55. AJS says:

Ya I was too busy cussing out the “heart” of the order and somehow missed the change. Plus it is, you know, 1:10 in the am. Why am I still awake again?

  56. aglebagel says:

Completely forgiven. This is the definition of a mind-numbing game.

  57. Steve Smith says:

It’s history and we’re all crazy!

  58. Steve Smith says:

Can we PLEASE get some offense!!!!!!!!

  59. Mike C. says:

I salute all u crazies who are still up watching or listening to this game.
for me, it’s 2:30pm here, and i couldn’t get any work done at all today!
I believe in the Holy Trinity WMA!

  60. Playoffs by 2012 says:

    Why no Hanrahan?

  61. pghboyinca says:

If this game doesn’t point out the need for a bat what will? A AAA pitcher comes in and smokes us for 6 innings?

  62. Playoffs by 2012 says:

McCutchen is at 90 pitches and Hanrahan is siting in the pen. WHY??

  63. Playoffs by 2012 says:

  64. MBS says:

Unbelievable! That ump should never call another game. Can they review this in Toronto?

  65. Steve Smith says:

  66. Steve Smith says:

Throw that guy out of the leagues!

  67. aglebagel says:

The closer’s “role” has just become ridiculous in today’s game.

  68. Joseph ~ Huntington Beach CA says:

Just when you think officiating in professional sports cannot possibly get any worse . . .

  69. aglebagel says:

Wow, not what this team needed in the middle of a very challenging stretch. They’ve shown an incredible ability to bounce back this year, and they’ll really need to after this one.

  70. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Someone give me an argument against widening the use of instant replay.

  71. DanW says:

Every 19 years they blow a call at the plate in ATL!

  72. Jay G -Jacksonville FL via New Castle says:

Ump just wanted to go home… b.s.

  73. pghboyinca says:

An absolute total disgrace. Did anyone lese notice the batter fall down and was laying 4 feet from the batters box, that was going to be a double play. Daniel McCutchen was waving to throw to first. That ump should be suspended for the rest of the year.

  74. diehard says:

Everybody just remember the name Jerry Meals. If he doesn’t admit that he blew/threw this game, MLB needs to fire him by dawn. If he steps on the field tomorrow, the Pirates should wlak off in protest.

  75. What happened to common sense? says:

Never in my life have I seen a call that bad. Jerry Meals deserves to be suspended or fired.

I would like to point out the fact that Lugo was the beneficiary of two blown calls. The double play early in the game when he was clearly out at first was the first.

  76. TheSaltyRogue says:

Simply the worst call I’ve ever seen. Absolutely horrendous… and Jerry Meals – it will be remembered.

    GO BUCS.

  77. What happened to common sense? says:

I’d look for a couple guys to be optioned for the game later today. Tim Wood, Daniel Moskos, Chris Leroux all likely

  78. Playoffs by 2012 says:

Moskos and Leroux can’t. They have to be in the minors for 10 days unless there is an injury.

  79. aglebagel says:

I agree that there has to be a suspension here. Jim Joyce was one thing, with a bang-bang play that happened to be in an enormous situation. And I understand that this was at the end of 19 innings behind the plate, but seriously, you cannot miss that call. Ever. No excuse.

Maybe there needs to be a rule in place that states that another umpire needs to take over behind the plate after 12 innings or so.

  80. PJ says:

I usually stay up to make sure my house doesnt get robbed but not to see the bucs get robbed… Terrible terrible call

  81. PJ says:

Ump heard there were some good strip clubs in atlanta and tried go make it before closing

  82. PJ says:

Jerry mea… I mean Steals a game away from bucs… I sure hope they dont lose division by one game

  83. PJ says:

Thought i had a nightmare when i dozed off durin the 19th inning only to wake up realizing that the real nightmare was Jerry Meals behind the dish

  84. diehard says: is actually showing the FULL replay with the Braves announcers where they’re saying he was out! Not sure if the full clip will stay up as it shows someone at MLB putting a bad umpire in a bad light.
