Beat Em Bucs
I’m quite surprised that Tabata is leading off and Presley batting 2nd.
Tabata is so good hitting to right side/field, which is what you want if Presley were leadoff and got on base as much as he did before. Tabata could fill up that right side hole! While Presley is a lefty batter, he did not pull the ball all that much when he was here before, so it would seem he would not take advantage of the 1st baseman holding Tabata on if Tabata leads off on base.
Plus, I think Presley is a little better base stealer than Tabata.
All in all though, two exciting options to have at the top of the order!!!
Are we looking at next year’s batting line-up, with Pedro dropped into the 6-hole in place of Harrison?!
Hey Bizzy!
I work in Greensburg (where I’m writing right now), but I live in Washington, 52.4 miles away. Two more towns for your list.
@DK are you doing any coverage of the Little League World Series? Hopefully the Mid-Atlantic countryboys from PA can take tonights game against the surfer dudes from CA. It would be nice to have the homestate boys in the final game. Be nice to have the hometown boys win tonight as well in St. Louis.
Stat of the day…
The Pirates have used the DL the most times (tied with SF & LA) in MLB.
Can’t control the uncontrollable.
Groat
Logged in, thanks
Its interesting I see no thanks to DK for helping to bring Sid’s stuff to a head
I’m just sayin, no one better than Dejan
I feel like Beavis or Butthead, but …
@Biz said DK & head.
“Uh huh huh huh”.
Eternal 7th grader.
Charlie may want to start throwing some outside since several balls that have been hit very hard have been inside off the plate. Pujols and Molina at least hit ones that were definitely balls inside.
JMB,
lol…
Need Morton to get out of this 2nd and go let Jackson walk a few of us…
very bad…
3 is a big lead against a team without too many 3 run shots…
Jackson also can pitch without pressure…
not good
I was just thinking this morning that 78-84 is possible again, and we could possible make 82-80 if we get hot, but we need to split this series at the minimum.
Welcome back, Prez!
we’ll score some runs against Jackson, just hope Charlie finds his groove.
With you JMB, 78 in still in the conversation – I think 81 has sailed, but I will say, I am thrilled at the shot at 78 and the strong likelihood of 75+.
Good year.
And Jackson is losing his control!!
So far your looking right there CD. Hopefully we can get one.
Can’t wait til Diaz gets in the game……
Jackson getting Larussa calls now.
Nothing like a 6 ball walk!
brand new game!
Jonsey!!
Jones delivers!
Like last time J-hay! Come on Bucs!
@ Steve… I saw that walk on the pitch tracker and was thinking the same way… two called strikes clearly outside off the plate.
@Playoffs,
You got me yesterday with “How did Diaz do?” well after the game ended…and you just got me again…never expected it…lol…you were just missing exclamation points
@Dave the ump gave them back to us on Jones AB, though so all was well.
Double-double for the lead!
Bad baserunning again!
Nicest lineup perhaps all year for the Bucs.
Maybe we can hire Tim Raines or Kenny Lofton as a base running coach next year. We absolutely suck at it.
Patton,
I love that thought…We could use a base stealer to help us as a coach…not just a fast guy, but a great base stealer.
What is Tim Raines doing these days?
Wow. Top 7 Cards in the line-up tonight are batting over .290
… and Pujols is the lowest of those seven guys…
Obviously, this group never played baseball. McKenry was caught because Jackson made a nice play. The Fort is supposed to run on a groundball up the middle. It wasn’t bad baserunning. It was a good defensive play.
Either that or they were taught the wrong way.
Bunch, I agree, the play on McKenry wasn’t so much bad base running as a nice play by Jackson. My bad base running comment was more of an emotional response. But, you have to admit that is one area we definitely need to improve in.
Obviously though, McKenry would be better served to make sure the ball gets past the pitcher before he breaks for home.
Baserunning has been bad….Wasn’t it yesterday or the day before we had 2 runners cut down in the same inning……bad…..all year……just need some screws tightened a bit……
Jackson is close to being finished tonight. Just hit 90 pitch mark.
@CD Brewer
I’m just keepin it real I guess……
Baserunning has had some mistakes (not unlike the rest of MLB) but they’ve also been victimized by Nick Leyva quite a few times this year. Its a combination of things.
@Bunch, played tons of baseball, and I am of the mind of @Pattonbb, he should have waited the extra second to see if it gets past the pitcher.
@Bunch agree about Leyva.
Now we’re down a run and that baserunning play comes back to bite.
How many times has Mortin give up hits on balls several inches off the plate?
Pedro Alvarez Update………….
Since being demoted — 3 for 27 — .111 AVG — 9 KO — 4 BB — YUCK!!
Steve
That’s easy to say but on a hard hit ball they have a better chance of getting him at the plate if he waits. It’s a catch-22. More often, that ball gets by the pitcher.
PA Little League lost 2-0 to CA tonight, but they are still 3-2
Chase really gets out of the box quickly…….and gets good jumps off of first when he steals……
If he can just get his avg up 30-40 points…….He’s a hustler….
Two nice plays against Tabata in RBI situations.
Hey Bunch,
I am not upset with McKendry because stuff happens over 162 games, but if he waits a second he is NOT even drawing a throw to the plate by a middle infielder, if one of them had been able to get it.
He has been trained to watch it clear the pitcher -unless it is contact play, which that wasn’t.
And he is paid well to do it.
Coming from college baseball (didn’t see the field much at all – couldn’t hit at all at that level – but, yes, Big East at that).
I happen to think this was a nice play and he got nailed on his 2ndary lead, which I can live with.
Nice effort by leroux tonight…time to get to this weak cards pen!
@Playoffs,
HERE HE COMES!!
Unless we now ph for him because of their move…
Here comes Diaz!!
Hey Matt Diaz is in the game as a PH for now.
That last pitch was a ball almost immediately out of the pitcher’s hand and he swung at it. At least he got Paul to 3rd. Get him home Jose!
Sorry didn’t realize the pitcher’s spot was before Cedeno now. Come on Cedeno.
oh my God, this is the least predictable guy we have…in this spot too
With 2 strikes now, anyone – K are popup?
Would love to see Ronny do this…
I don’t dislike him…I think he just is distracted…all the time
Swinging at ball 3 above his head.
Molina is a very good catcher…he knew what he was doing…
That’s a tough pitch to lay off.
How awesome would it be if Doumit grew the mountain man Keisel beard?
Tabata, Cutch and Walk 0-9 with 2 walks and a HBP. Hopefully we can get something, just anything in the top of the 9th.
Big out! Gotta like the ice watson shows in his veins in big situations!
What’d I miss?? Diaz hit a homer??
We’ve got d’arnuald, Tabata and Presley in the ninth…..time to manufacture a run or two…………Let’s hold ‘em Bucs……
Cedeno is pathetic but this team has no shortstop, no catcher, no third baseman and first base is marginal. Nutting must spend money to get some proven talent at these positions. I am getting tired of the Steve Pearce’s, Pedro Ciraaco and other no hope major league talent. Sick of hearing these wonderful drafts and I am afraid Pedro may be another Huntington folly!!!
@ playoffs – now that would be a first! Sad thing it really would be.
Good night folks!
Nice job Watson and Hurdle.
Ouch. Sometimes intentional walks sting. We got stung.
Don’t think the hammer will be used for a week now. That was the situation to bring him in. No need to keep him in the pen.
Gotta admit, I wouldn’t have gone Hammer there, but don’t think Watson would have been my plan either…
Tabata’s 18th game vrs Cards. He had hit in all 17 previous games. 10-game hitting streak over as well.
Should have started Diaz…………
